Today we received a question from one of our readers that wanted us to explain the differences between two specific Bay Area cultural districts for their visit to San Francisco

For about two months now, we have been researching, writing and publishing articles that we felt would point you in the right direction while you were trying to plan your next visit to the San Francisco Bay Area! We have really enjoyed doing it and we will continue to do it for a very long time!!

In order to better understand the vast cultural experience that awaits you in San Francisco, we decided to explore this question so that you are fully informed about the qualities of both areas!

In all reality, saying that Japan Town is better than China Town, or the other way around, would be impossible.

The winner would have more to do with personal preference than any specific quality.

For instance, if you are dying to try authentic Sushi and Sake, clearly Japan Town is the place to go. However, if you are in the mood to check out the street markets, hang out at the spa, or pick out some fresh produce, China Town beats Japan Town easily.

Japan Town features more of an indoor experience. It does not possess the outdoor markets, fresh produce, or niche food shopping that China Town features, it does however have plenty of indoor restaurants, clothing, and assorted novelty stores.

If you are looking more for a karaoke experience, then Japan Town is without a doubt your preferred destination, and they even have some great bars to get your ready for a night full of singing.

In comparison, China Town has way more too eat, is almost entirely outdoors, stretches for 24 city blocks (much larger than Japan Town) and is located kitty corner from North Beach (the Italian Quarter of San Francisco) so the cultural experience is blended and a bit more authentic.

If you are looking to walk around indoors, eat some tasty treats, and check out Asian literature, and avoid the weather, I would recommend Japan Town in a heart beat.

Japan Town is a very convenient option if the weather outside is frightful! It is essentially a very large complex with plenty of things to do so that even if it is raining, this is a safe destination.

In opposite fashion, China Town is not an indoor experience at all! If it is sunny and you are in the mood to walk around (quite a bit) and see a lot of really cool things, China Town is legit!

For instance, if you are looking for an out door experience where you can buy fresh food, do a bar crawl, and see a blend of two of the city's largest cultural districts, than China Town is without a doubt the better location.
